Ed Kimmel - Project Author & Web Master

Ed has had an interest in electronics from an early age when he discovered that there was a magic power inside dry cell batteries that caused light bulbs to light.  He received a vacuum tube experiment lab as a Christmas gift one year while in elementary school and soon he was making vacuum tubes do all kinds of tricks.  A few years later, he received a transistor experiment lab which further enticed his thirst for knowledge.  He learned the basics of electronics.  After high school he got a job working for the local security alarm company, a career he still is in.  Technology changed and integrated circuits hit the seen and digital logic building block chips were soon packaged together in one larger chip called a microprocessor.  This opened a new frontier for him, hardware designed had to be software run....  Fun.....

After years of using a Commodore Vic-20 he finally got his hands on a basket of old IBM 286 compatible parts and soon learned DOS 3.2 all the way through Windows XP and dual processor servers and most of Microsoft's software products.

He is now turning to the open source project of the Fedora Linux operating system and bundled software.  As he learns, he will document every step and take all of his knowledge and experience with electronic systems and electronics to combine them into a home automation project like no other.
